The procedure is performed without any incisions—instead, miraDry uses controlled electromagnetic energy to carefully eliminate targeted sweat glands in the armpit region, while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed.

Who Is a Good Candidate for miraDry®?

Individuals in good general health who suffer from excessive underarm sweat (also known as hyperhidrosis) are typically considered good candidates for this procedure. Most patients who consider miraDry are tired of antiperspirants that are ineffective, and wish to significantly reduce the amount of sweat produced in the underarm area. This treatment is also ideal for patients who are seeking more effective results—other treatments for hyperhidrosis, such as BOTOX® injections, require return visits in order to maintain results, whereas miraDry typically produces desired results after one or two treatment sessions.

How Does miraDry® Work?

Using a specialized handpiece that is gently guided along the treatment area, Dr. Jerome Liu, Dr. Tom Liu, or one of our trained practitioners will strategically target sweat glands in the underarm area. Proprietary miraWave™ technology enables the device to deliver heated energy to the sweat glands, effectively destroying them.

To ensure comfort and safety during treatment, the device also cools healthy skin and tissue throughout treatment. Additionally, a local anesthetic is injected into the skin, prior to treatment. A single treatment can give an 82% average reduction in sweat. Consequently, most patients only require a single treatment, but a minority of patients may need a second treatment to attain their desired result. The clinical trials also showed clinical reduction in underarm hair and odor.

What Is Recovery After miraDry® Like?

Following your miraDry treatment, you may experience a mild amount of swelling or bruising, but these effects should subside relatively quickly. Results of miraDry are often noticeable immediately, and typically persist without the need for repeated maintenance visits.

The majority of our patients are able to return to work and other daily routines immediately after their miraDry treatment, but Dr. Jerome Liu and Dr. Tom Liu may advise patients to avoid certain strenuous activity or physical exercise for a few days.

Is miraDry® Safe?

Sweating is a critical function of the human body that helps us regulate our internal temperature and avoid overheating. However, only about 2% of our sweat glands are actually located in the armpits, so it is not considered harmful to eliminate them. After a miraDry procedure, your body still has millions of other sweat glands remaining, so its ability to cool itself will not be adversely affected.
