What is Cellfina™?

Cellulite is an extremely common cosmetic concern, and until now, there hasn’t really been a reliable non-surgical treatment available. Performed in our office, Cellfina™ is the only FDA-cleared treatment that has been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite for up to two or more years—some patients have even retained results for up to three years!
Although some people may believe fat causes cellulite, the truth is that cellulite dimples are the result of underlying connective tissues that pull the skin down (similar to the buttons on a mattress), causing a bumpy appearance. Cellfina™ works using a vacuum housing that helps our skilled board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Jerome Liu and Dr. Tom Liu, target the areas of concern. Once a specific area has been isolated in the housing, a small, needle-like device can be inserted to apply light, rapid pressure. This pressure causes the band of tissue to release, enabling the skin to have a more smooth appearance. The process is then repeated for any remaining areas that the patient wishes to address. Cellulite treatment with Cellfina™ usually takes about 45 minutes, but can vary depending on the size of the area being treated. Patients should be able to return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure, but some minor bruising and/or tenderness can occur. However, these side effects should decrease and dissipate over a short period of time.
Cellulite dimpling can be reduced in as few as three days after treatment, and most patients are able to achieve an optimal outcome after a single session. Although cellulite can potentially return, the long-lasting results of Cellfina™ mean that touch-up appointments typically aren’t needed for approximately two or more years.
