Dr. Tom S. Liu graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors and Phi Beta Kappa from Northwestern University. He went on to attend the prestigious University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where he completed a competitive 5-year combined MD-MBA program. While he was at the University of Chicago, Dr. Liu discovered his passion for plastic surgery during a medical mission to Puerto Rico to perform reconstruction on children with congenital deformities. Combining his love of medicine with his new business knowledge, Dr. Liu worked on philanthropic medical ventures culminating with the fundraising of $10,000 for a Puerto Rican foundation. Dr. Liu graduated from the University of Chicago with Honors and was a nominee for the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

Dr. Tom Liu matched at the prestigious UCLA Medical Center (ranked “Best in the West” by US News and World Reports) for the highly competitive combined general surgery-plastic surgery program. While at UCLA, Dr. Liu developed a strong interest in aesthetic plastic surgery and microvascular surgery. After finishing his plastic surgery training at UCLA, Dr. Liu dedicated an extra year of sub-specialty fellowship training at the Aesthetic Surgery Institute in San Francisco, one of the only fellowships that offer combined training in aesthetic surgery and advanced microsurgery. During this year, Dr. Liu worked extensively with world-renowned plastic surgeons and learned specialized techniques in facial rejuvenation, facelift surgery, rhinoplasty, microsurgery, and free tissue transfer.

Dr. Tom Liu has authored many manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Annals of Plastic Surgery involving topics in breast reconstruction, microsurgery, facelifts, and the economics of plastic surgery procedures. Dr. Liu has also presented his works at society meetings. His research has been featured and quoted by the New York Times and NBC. His current research is focused on the longevity of facelifts and on the patient education of plastic surgery training. Dr. Liu also has an interest in Asian aesthetics and has traveled to Taiwan to pursue this interest.

Dr. Tom Liu has an aesthetic philosophy grounded in producing natural long lasting results for his patients. Dr. Liu believes in the restoration and preservation of youth rather than transformation through surgery. Dr. Liu provides each of his patients with an individualized thorough aesthetic analysis and utilizes advanced surgical and non-surgical procedures to create an optimal result for each patient.

When not caring for his patients, Dr. Tom Liu enjoys exploring new culinary adventures through cooking and exploring nature through hiking and photography. Dr. Liu is conversationally fluent in Chinese.
